Making Your Quirks Work

As a child, people would always ask me about the dot in the middle of my cheek. I struggled with self esteem as I tried to work around a large mole on my face, but over time, I learned how to make it work. Believe it or not, my mole has actually become the focal point of my modeling career. Critics have said that it gives my look a little personality. It isn't always easy to feel beautiful, especially if something about you is different. I decided to create a beauty blog dedicated to helping others learn how to make their quirks work for them.

3 Must-Haves For Your New Hair Salon: What To Get Before You Open For Good

by Derek Little

You may have recently become certified as a hair stylist and are focusing on the grand opening of your own salon. If so, you may be extremely excited about servicing clients in a salon you own where you can do things your way. It is a great time to open up a salon because the demand for certain salon services, such as hair cutting and coloring techniques, has seen an increase over the past several years. However, it is important to make sure you are leaving a great impression on the clients so that you can keep them coming back and continue to get more business as they spread the word about how great you are at providing different services. In that case, there are some must-haves that you should make sure to invest in before opening the salon.

1. High-Quality Hair Cutting Shears

As you may have learned during cosmetology courses, cutting hair with the right pair of shears is crucial. If you are using dull shears, it is easy to cause some damage to the hair or have difficulty achieving the right cut for your clients. The last thing you want to do is disappoint your clients when you are trying to help boost their confidence with their new look. Instead of choosing shears based on the price, choose options that are known for their ability to cut through various hair textures without causing damage.

There are several different types of cutting shears that you may need to have readily available in your salon for when a specific client needs them. Some of these different styles include thinning shears and tempered shears. Make sure to examine the blades and check out the handles of each style before you make your purchase. You may have a specific preference when it comes to the type of grips that are attached to the shears.

2. Comfortable Backwash Chairs

Having the right backwash chairs is crucial for the salon. Your clients will spend time sitting in these chairs to have their hair rinsed out. Some clients may need to get rinsed more than once in a day, especially if you are doing a double process and using a toner on their hair, too. You certainly would not want your clients to feel uncomfortable while sitting down and leaning their heads back into the shampoo bowl, but the wrong chairs can easily cause some discomfort and strain on the neck. If you would like to avoid this problem, consider getting reclining backwash chairs that are easy to adjust and cause absolutely no strain on the necks of your clients as they lean back to have their hair thoroughly washed out.

3. An Entertainment Station

Your clients may be paying good money to have their hair done by you, so it is a good idea to keep them entertained while they are waiting. If you have a lot of people who want to come to your salon, there may be times when the waiting area gets busy, and you do not want some of your clients to start getting frustrated. There are many ways to keep the clients entertained. You can put together an entertainment station consisting of a television, magazines, and some bottled beverages. You could have different phone chargers available if clients need to charge their phone, and you might even want to have a few tablets available for them to look at different hairstyles and get inspiration while they wait for their turn. The entertainment options are quite endless.

Opening a salon is a huge accomplishment. Once you have opened those doors, it is important to provide the best service to the clients so they continue to come back. You can keep them satisfied by providing quality cuts with the right shears, offering comfortable chairs for them to sit on, and having an entertainment station available for the clients while they wait.
